Being back on BookTube these last few months has taught me a lot about community.
They have your back in the good and the bad! Community is so important, even if it’s based on fiction 😉. Being in a community molds who we are and sustains who we’ll become. They hold our hand in support and keep us together.
We are community-based people. God created us in such a manner, so its difficult not to be, however tempting. I think the perception of readers is that they are introverted people in general. Even if that was the case, we have community built in our DNA. We are not born alone and can not live life absolutely alone. We are social creatures, despite needing healthy amounts of alone time (me: speaking as an introvert)
In a world so focused on isolation during this unprecedented time of history, we need to remember the amazing communities surrounding us, even now! Whether in person, in our small bubble, or online, we are never truly alone. Though we may feel that way. That is why being actively apart of these communities are so critical.
The online world is such an enigma and is constantly evolving and changing. It too shapes us as a society and our communities. It is fascinating. However, being choosy about your communities is not such a bad thing. Too much toxicity can isolate us even more and that is never good.
I love being apart of an amazing community called “BookTube”…especially those that identify as Christian BookTubers, who share in my heart and passions. Who open my eyes to new adventures and exploration of literature that I wouldn’t have walked into on my own. Healthy communities are vital for our own personal growth.
I have absolutely loved the new beginning I’ve taken into being apart of this community once again! It’s like no time has really past. I love the accountability and stability it brings to my life along with the each personality and personal interests of each channel. Everyone is so different and their likes so vast, which I thoroughly enjoy!
As I find my groove and aesthetic and rhythm again in creating content and videos, they have been truly welcoming, which is both inspiring and honourable. It is a loving community, one of growth and supportive aspiration! Along with this group, you can also find like-readers on platforms such as Goodreads and others. But I am a visual person and a creative one, so BookTube has been my favourite so far.
I am speaking from my own experience and thoughts. However, I do think we all have the same goal in mind: to serve the community as a whole, bring Christian authors, writers, books and creators to the forefront, highlighting their art, their craft, and the fact that there’s a world of authors giving their talents for the faith-based community and focusing on hope as the inspiration in their writing. And boy, do we need hope in these last days!
For me personally, it has given me aspiration and motivation to pick up my pen for writing again. As well as reading more sub-genres I typically don’t focus on and venturing out even further on my reading journey.
What a wonderful blessing and a beautiful thing to be apart of!
I am overjoyed, in awe and proud of this community of readers! I hope you join in and be inspired to write your own books, go on amazing adventures with new book characters, find your new favourite author, enjoy a new genre! Whatever the case may be, there is so much to discover and I want to see you there on the ride!
